Our Story

About Brisk & Brew

A neighbourhood coffee house built on good beans, warm hospitality, and the belief that the best moments happen over a shared cup.

Inside Brisk and Brew Coffee House

Where It All Began

Brisk & Brew Coffee House was born from a simple idea that the heart of a neighborhood deserves a place to gather, connect, and recharge. Nestled in the welcoming Allendale community, where families thrive, schools are just around the corner, and neighbors greet each other by name, we're proud to be the area's very first coffee spot.

As longtime coffee lovers, my wife and I always dreamed of creating a space where people could slow down, share a conversation, or spark new ideas over a great cup of coffee. Since moving into Allendale, we've felt the warmth of this community, and building Brisk & Brew from the ground up has only deepened our connection.

Our vision is to offer more than just exceptional coffee — we want to be a hub for students, families, professionals, and anyone who enjoys being part of a vibrant local atmosphere. With a focus on quality, comfort, and community, Brisk & Brew is excited to become a daily ritual for our neighbors and a welcoming stop for anyone passing through.

Building History

Our Space Through the Years

Since it was built in 1954, 6324 – 106 Street NW has worn a few different names — from Gould Drug and Allendale Hardware to the coffee house it is today.

Built From the Ground Up

Our building at 6324 – 106 Street NW went up in 1954, framed floor by floor as one of Allendale's early commercial addresses — a ground-floor storefront with an apartment above.

Before the Street Was Paved

Long before pavement and streetlights, this stretch of Allendale was still a work in progress — a muddy road, a wooden plank fence, and the frame of the new building rising in the background.

A Neighbourhood Still Taking Shape

The blocks around the new building were still filling in this early — open lots, half-built houses, and wooden fences as far as the eye could see.

Gould Drug Opens Its Doors

Once the block was finished, the building opened as Gould Drug — a Rexall pharmacy — with Allendale Hardware next door. Workmen can still be seen finishing the front yard, with a loaded truck parked outside.

The Rexall Years

By the 1970s, Gould Drug's Rexall signage and wood-panelled storefront were a familiar sight on the block.

A Growing Skyline

The view over Allendale had changed just as much by now — paved streets, mature trees, and a new high-rise on the horizon showed how much the neighbourhood, and the city around it, had grown.

A Familiar Corner Store

Gould Drug remained a neighbourhood fixture through the 1980s — the kind of corner store where kids on bikes and afternoon errands were part of everyday life on 106 Street.

Brisk & Brew Opens Its Doors

A full 2017 renovation brought a new roof, new heating throughout all three levels, and a fully renovated main floor and apartment — setting the stage for its next chapter. Today, 6324 – 106 Street NW is home to Brisk & Brew Coffee House — Allendale's very first coffee spot and a gathering place for the whole community.
